Bangladesh on Sunday reported the highest Covid-19 daily caseloads and death toll amid a nationwide strict lockdown imposed more than 10 days ago to counter the outbreak.
The Health Ministry in a statement said some 11,874 new cases and 230 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours ended on Sunday morning. With the latest counts, the total caseloads rose to 1,021,189 and death toll to 16,419 since the pandemic began in March last year.
Some 29.67 percent out of 40,015 samples were tested positive in the past 24 hours, the statement said adding the recovery count rose to 874,501 with some 6,362 patients recovered during this time.
Some 85.64 per cent of the patients recovered while 1.61 percent died.
Division-wise deaths reported are: 8,115 in Dhaka, 3,000 in Chattogram, 1,247 in Rajshahi, 1,854 in Khulna, 487 in Barishal, 584 in Sylhet, 752 in Rangpur and 380 in Mymensingh division.
A nationwide lockdown has been in force since June 28. The army troopers were deployed on July 1 to aid the civil administration to restrict people’s movement in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.
