by Staff Correspondent in Dhaka:

Bangladesh has reported 60 more fatalities from novel coronavirus, making the death toll from the virus to 11,510, according to health department statement issued on Saturday.

Some 1,452 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours ended on Saturday morning, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases to 760,584.

The South Asian country, which witnessed a surge in the cases and deaths, imposed a nationwide lockdown since early last month to slow the spread of the virus.

The infections and deaths caused by the virus have been reported comparatively lower in the last couple of day. It is believed the shutdown resulted in the lower number of infections and deaths.

The health minister said 9.61 percent of the 15,117 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.

Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 684,671 after another 3,245 patients were cured in the past day, the health ministry said.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 90.02 percent recovered. The death rate is counted at 1.51 percent.
