Dhaka – Thirty-seven people have reportedly died of the novel coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours ended on Wednesday morning, raising the death toll from the Covid-19 to 746 in Bangladesh, officials said.
With 2,695 new cases reported during the period, the total number of Covid-19 patients stood at 55,140 in the South Asian country.
The number of fatalities and infections from the virus have apparently been increased after the government relaxed some of the measures it had taken more than nine weeks ago to prevent spread of the deadly bug.
Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the health services directorate, said 11,590 patients recovered with condition of 470 patients improved in the last 24 hours.
A total of 12,510 samples were tested at 50 laboratories located in different parts of the country during that time.
Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first three cases of COVID-19.
