Bangladesh on Tuesday reported 15,776 cases of novel coronavirus and 235 deaths with most health facilities treating patients beyond their capacity, the government said.
The government’s Directorate General of Health Services said the infection rate was reported at 28.54 per cent as per the tests conducted in the last 24 hours ended on Tuesday morning.
Some 55,284 samples were tested during this time.
The South Asian country reported daily infection of more than 10,000 since early last month.
With the fresh infections, the total number of patients rose to 1,296,093. The fatality toll was reported 21,397 since the pandemic began in March last year.
The recovery count rose to 1,125,045 after condition of another 16,297 improved during the past one day. The recovery rate was counted at 86.80 percent and the death rate at 1.65 percent, according to the government.
Dhaka accounted for the highest 9,707 deaths followed by 4,043 in Chattogram division. Some 1,652 died in Rajshahi, 2,859 in Khulna, 686 in Barishal, 797 in Sylhet, 1069 in Rangpur and 584 in Mymensingh division.
Bangladesh has imposed a nationwide lockdown to counter the spike of the virus since July 1.
