Bangladesh records lowest temperature at 2.6 degree Celsius

Dhaka – A severe cold wave has been sweeping over most part of Bangladesh with the meteorologists recording the lowest 2.6 degree Celsius temperature ever since they began record keeping.

Mercury dropped to 2.6 degree Celsius on Monday at Tetulia of northern Panchagarh district despite the fact that the winter in tropical Bangladesh is generally pleasant.

“This is the lowest temperature recorded in the history,” meteorologist Shamsuddin Ahmed said adding that the authorities began the record keeping in 1948

The cold wave many persist for few more days, he warned.

The meteorological department said that the “severe” cold wave had been sweeping over northern Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and central district of Tangail, western Chuadanga and north-eastern Srimangal.

Mild to moderate cold wave has been sweeping over Mymensingh and Barisal divisions, rest parts of Dhaka, Sylhet and Khulna divisions and the regions of Sandwip, Sitakunda, Comilla and Noakhali, a statement of the department said.

The cold wave may continue, it added.

Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may rise slightly for Tuesday.

In Dhaka, the capital city, the Met office says the mercury may dip below 7 degrees Celsius Monday night. It says, the minimum temperature in Dhaka on Monday will be 6.8 degrees.

The maximum temperature was recorded reach 20.4 degrees Celsius.

In northern Nilphamari district, the mercury dipped to 3 degrees Celsius.
