Dhaka – Bangladesh has reported 26 deaths from novel coronavirus, the lowest recorded single-day deaths in the last 43 days, raising the fatality toll from the virus to 4,759, officials said on Monday.
The health ministry in a statement said that it recorded 26 deaths in the last 24 hours ended on Monday morning.
Some 1,812 new infections were also reported during this period, added the health ministry release. The latest cases were higher than that of the previous day when 1,476 persons were diagnosed positive with 31 deaths.
With the new cases, the total number of covid-19 patients rose to 339,332. Of whom 243,155 persons have recovered.
It is the lowest records of deaths in the last 43 days, said the ministry statement adding that the previously the lowest 22 deaths were reported on August 2.
According to the government, the infection rate was 12.75 per cent on Monday while it was 11.35 per cent on Sunday.
Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated countries worldwide, diagnosed the first three cases of novel coronavirus on March 8, and the first death was reported on March 18. The infection rate was initially slow, but it started rising in the mid-May, and picked in June. The number of tests was lessened in July and gradually the number of infection started falling.
