Bangladesh offers support for Indonesian tsunami victims

Dhaka – Bangladesh has offered Indonesia with all possible support to Indonesia to deal with the deadly tsunami that killed more than 1,300 people in the coastal city of Palu.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the offer while talking to Indonesian President Joko Widodo by phone on Tuesday evening.

The 7.5 magnitude earthquake-triggered tsunami devastated the coastal city on Friday. Rescue efforts are still on.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Hasina expressed profound shock at the loss of lives and property in Indonesia during her conservation with the Indonesian leader.

Hasina talked to Widodo for nearly 10 minutes.

She conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved families and wished quick recovery of the wounded people.

“Indonesia is not alone in this difficult time…Bangladesh will remain beside you,” the press secretary said quoting the prime minister as saying.

Hasina requested Joko Widodo to let her know about the needs of his country at this moment to deal with the situation, saying Bangladesh is ready to stand by Indonesia with all possible assistance, according to state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency.
