
Dhaka – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Bangladesh causing panic among people in Dhaka and elsewhere, officials said.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was located 15 kilometers north-east of Ambasa in the neighbouring Indian State of Tripura.
People in Dhaka came out of the high-rise buildings as the quake jolted Bangladesh at around 3:09 pm (local time). The tremor lasted for nearly a minute as its jerks initially felt a little. The jerks became stronger before it ended.
The earthquake’s depth was 36 kilometres at the epicenter.
The USGS says 99 percent of the people in and around the region should be safe after the 5.5 magnitude earthquake.
No report of damage was however reported initially from any part of the country. People notified their circles of friends on social media that they are safe.
