Dhaka – The death toll in Bangladesh’s factory fire has risen to 35 with one more worker who sustained burn from the blaze dying at a hospital, police said on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at Tampaco Foils factory on September 10 at Tongi industrial area of central Bangladeshi district of Gazipur, 20 kilometers north of Dhaka, leaving 24 people killed on the scene.

Rescuers found a few bodies inside the rubble of the factory as the building collapsed because of the explosion-triggered fire while few others died in the hospital later.

The latest victim was identified as Hossain Ahmed Rasel, 25, son of Hasan Ali, hailed from of Ghagua village in Golapganj sub-district of north-eastern Bangladeshi district of Sylhet, police officer Firoz Talukder said.

He added that Rasel, an assistant operator of the factory who received 70 percent burns, succumbed to his injures at Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in the Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh army and fire service personnel in a joint-effort are still carrying out rescue activities at the fire-ravaged factory.

Ten people remained still missing while six bodies remained unidentified at the hospital.

The Tampaco Foils factory produces packaging for tobacco and other consumer products. British American Tobacco and Nestle are among its clients, as posted on the website of the company.

Accidents in Bangladeshi factories, which mostly produce clothing, packaging and textiles, are common thanks to lax implementation of regulations.

A fire at Tazreen Fashion factory in late 2012 killed at least 112 workers. More than 1,100 people were killed and 2,500 injured after the collapse of the Rana Plaza building which housed five garment factories on April 24, 2013.
