Bangladesh coronavirus cases rise to 621, deaths 34

Dhaka – Bangladesh on Sunday reported the highest 139 cases of novel coronavirus in a single day since it detected the first three cases five weeks ago.

With the latest cases detected in the last 24 hours ended Sunday morning, the number of total Covid-19 patients in the South Asian country rose to 621, according to health officials.

Four more people died during the period raising the death toll from the virus to 34, said Meerjady Sabrina Flora, the director of the state-run Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research.   

Among the deceased, she said, two are aged between 30-40 years; one is above 70 and another is above 60.

Three people recovered from the infection and were sent back to their homed during the period, she told reporters.

The concentration of the infection was still high in the capital Dhaka and adjoining Narayanganj district, she said adding that four new districts were reported having coronavirus patients.

The districts are northern Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon, and the southern Jhalakathi and Lazmipur districts, the director said adding that most of those who detected with the virus had history of traveling to Dhaka and Narayanganj.

Dhaka recorded the highest number of infected in the country so far, which is 50 percent, while Narayanganj has second highest number of cases.
