Bangladesh’s Armed Forces on Saturday celebrated its foundation day during the country’s 1971 Independence War with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announcing the entire defence force is being rebuilt in line with the Forces Goal 2030. She said a in a brief televised address to the nation to mark the day that “the Armed Forces is being rebuilt organisationally, provided with advanced training and decorated with specialised military adorns.”
Sheikh Hasiuna, also the Defence Minister, added that it was her ruling Awami League government which undertook to modernise the forces which no other previous ones did.
The day, with no usual celebrations due to COVID-19, started with the chiefs of three services placing floral wreaths at “Shikha Anirban” or “Eternal Flame,”a memorial for the 1971 martyrs, at Dhaka Cantonment.
Military Secretaries to the President and Prime Minister placed wreaths on behalf of the two leaders.
The three chiefs then made a courtesy call separately on the President and Prime
minister. Bangladesh is now the top contributor of military personnel to the United Nations Peace
