‘Appropriate answer to BNP’

Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said the people in Narayanganj have given right answer to the BNP, the opposition party decrying that election under the Awami League would never be fair, through the city polls.

“It’s a right answer and BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) is not finding any words now to make comment on the election,” Hasina, also the chief of ruling Awami League party, said when mayor-elect of Narayanganj city Selina Hayat Ivy met with her at Ganabhaban.

Ivy, the Awami League candidate, defeated rival candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan of Bangladesh Nationalist Party by huge margin.

The Prime Minister described the election as fair and impartial and thanked the people of Narayanganj, law enforcements, election commission and local leaders of her party for ensuring a credible election.

The BNP led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia boycotted the last general election saying that election under Awami League would not be credible. The party also demanded a non-party caretaker administration to oversee the national polls.

The party also alleged Friday that the election in Narayanganj was rigged, and a senior leader demanded judicial probe into its allegation.

The Prime Minister responded to the allegations saying she noted the demand for judicial investigation.

How they show their face before the nation and why do people cast their votes in favour of the party, questioned the premier as they came up with such allegations when the entire nation observed the election was fair.

“We’ve accepted people’s mandate and the election was fantastic indeed.”

Ivy while addressing the audience, thanked the prime minister for nominating her as AL candidate, and people of her constituency for casting vote for her.

She also sought cooperation from the prime minister so that she could ensure development of her city.
