Another killed Kalyanpur ‘militant’ identified

Dhaka–The identity of another suspected militant of the nine killed militants in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur neighbourhood was disclosed, police said on Thursday.

In an overnight special drive by the joint forces, nine alleged militants were gunned down on Tuesday.

Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) briefed the journalists at the DMP headquarters at noon that the suspected militant was identified as Raihan Kabir, a madrasah student and son of Shahjahan Kabir, hailed from Pirgachha sub-district of Rangpur district.

The police officer said that Raihan who had gone missing for the last one year trained the Gulshan Café attackers.

Besides, Raihan was also wanted for a case of the Detective Branch of police following the killing of a constable in the attack on a patrol team of Ashulia industrial police in Baroipara in Savar in 2015.

Police on Wednesday disclosed the identities of seven among the nine alleged militants who were killed during a special drive of the joint forces in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur area.

They are: Abdullah, 23, son of Md Sohrab Ali of Vallabpur village in Dinajpur; Abu Hakim Nayeem, 33, son of Nurul Islam of Kuakata village in Patuakhali; Taj-ul-Haque Rashiq, 25, son of Rabiul Haq of Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area; Atiquzzaman Khan, 24, son of Saifuzzaman Khan of Dhaka’s Gulshan area; Shahzad Rouf Arko, 24, son of Touhid Rouf of Bashundhara in Dhaka; Md Motiar Rahman, 24, son of Nasiruddin Sarder of Omarpur village in Satkhira; and Md Jubayer Hossain, 20, son of Abdul Quaium of Paschim Maijdee village of Noakhali district.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police also disclosed the identities with photos in its web portal this evening.

Thirteen locally made grenades, around five kilogrammes of gel, 19 detonators, four 7.62mm pistols, seven magazines of 7.62mm pistols, 22 bullets, three commando knives and 12 guerrilla knives and two black flags with Arabic letters were found during the special drive.

It was said that these militants had a lot in common with those terrorists who attacked Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone on July 1 and Sholakia Eidgah on Eid day.
