Rajshahi; Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her ruling Awami League party always work for the people’s welfare, calling upon the electorates to vote for per party in the next general election.

“The AL [leadership] never flees, rather it works for the betterment of the country,” the Prime Minister told a gathering in the northern Bangladeshi city of Rajhahi.

Her remarks came in the wake of comments by the opposition leaders that the AL leaders would not get a path to flee unless it resigns and arranges an election under the neutral caretaker administration.

“I want to clear them one thing that the Awami League never flees, but their (BNP) leaders flee,” the Prime Minister said replying to the opposition BNP leader’s remarks that the Awami League would not get chance to flee.

As the election approaching fast, the war of words intensified between the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties with both sides sticking to their guns with the ruling party saying the election would hold under the current administration and the opposition party demanding a non-party caretaker administration to oversee the polls.

“I returned to the country thinking about the people of the country,” Hasina said addressing a grand rally that turned into a human sea with participation of tens of thousands of people organised by Rajshahi city and district units of the AL at the Madrasha ground.

At the rally, the premier also inaugurated 26 projects including seven of the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), worth over 1,333 taka crore and laid foundation stones of six other projects involving over 375 taka.

Referring to her return to the country twice ignoring the red eyes of the then governments in 1981 and 2007, she asked the BNP-Jamaat clique who wants to flee and said the AL never flees and it looks behind.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, AL Presidium Members Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Senior Joint Secretary General and Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shariar Alam, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, AL organising secretary SM Kamal, AL central working committee member Nurul Islam Thandu and BCL president Saddam Hossain also spoke.
