Dhaka – The 49th anniversary of resignation of justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury from the position of vice chancellor of Bangladesh’s leading Dhaka University has been remembered on Sunday.
Chowdhury, who was later president of the republic, left his DU
position in response to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s call for non-cooperation
against the Pakistani administration ahead of Bangladesh’s liberation war was
begun.
A press release issued by Chowdhury’s family said on this day
(March 15) in 1971, tendered his resignation in protest against the two
students by the Pakistani soldiers.
This was the only resignation during the period of non-cooperation
movement called by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the
release added.
Spirited by Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 speech, people in
the then East Pakistan waged the war of liberation after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
announced Bangladesh’s independence in the wake of hated Operation Search Light
carried out on the unarmed civilians by the Pakistani occupation force in the
night of March 25.
