Dhaka – Islamic State, a radical Islamist group that controls a swathe of Iraq and Syria, reportedly claimed responsibility of the attacks on a Spanish restaurant in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.
At least two cops were killed and dozens others injured as the armed-men fired their guns and exploded hand grenades. The attackers took hostage a number of people, mostly foreign nationals, who were having their evening meal at the cafe.
Rita Katz, director of US-based SITE Intelligence group, tweeted that ISIS commandos attack a restaurant frequented by foreigners in Dhaka.
Quoting Amaq news agency of IS, she said “More update from #ISIS’ Amaq about the #Dhaka #Bangladesh attack claims: More than 20 foreigners killed.”
The claim could not be independently verified.
