Dhaka – Bangladesh has reported 35 more deaths from novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the fatality toll from the virus to 4,351.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the health ministry 2,582 new cases were reported during the period compared to the 1,950 on Monday. With the latest cases reported, the number of infections rose to 317,528 in the South Asian country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its statement said of the deceased, 23 were men and 12 were women.
So far, 3,408 men (78.33%) and 943 women (21.67%) have died of Covid-19 across the country. Bangladesh reported the first death from the virus on March 18, more than a week after three first cases were reported.
Of the total 4,351 deaths, 2,105 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 943 in Chittagong division, 291 in Rajshahi division, 363 in Khulna division, 169 in Barisal division, 194 in Sylhet division, 194 in Rangpur division, and 92 in Mymensingh division, according to the press release.
The death rate from the virus in Bangladesh is 1.37 per cent.
Some 1,577,616 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 20.13% so far.
Health officials said 2,839 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours, making the total number of recovery 211,016. The rate of recovery is stated to 66.46 per cent.
