Dhaka – Senior Awami League leader and former home minister Sahara Khatun has been died at the age of 77.
The Awami League veteran, who had been suffering from age old complicacies, breathed her last at a hospital in Bangkok on Thursday night, party officials said.
Khatun was the lawmaker from Dhaka-18 parliamentary constituency.
She was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka on June 2 with a fever, allergy and other preexisting conditions and later moved to the intensive care unit when her condition deteriorated.
She was flown to Thailand and admitted to Bumrungrad Hospital last Monday.
A lawyer by profession, Khatun was made the home minister in 2009 and later served as the post and telecommunication minister.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock at the death of the former minister.
The process for bringing back home her body has been started. She will be buried in Dhaka.
