Dhaka – At least six persons have been killed in a gunfight between rival groups in south-eastern Bangladesh, police said on Tuesday.
The gun battle occurred in Bandarban hill district the morning between feuding groups of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS), a local political group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, leaving six of them dead on the spot, located more than 300 kilometers south-east of the capital Dhaka.
Office Mobasser Hossain said three other people were injured during the gunfight.
Police launched an investigation into the incident, he said,
PCJSS is a political organization based in Chittagong Hill Tracts, which was once battered by bush war for more than two decades. The organization fought for self-determination for more than 13 ethnic groups in the hilly terrain, more than one-tenth of Bangladesh’s land mass, until a peace deal was signed with the government in 1997.
