Dhaka – Senior Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim has been laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard in Dhaka.
The 72-year old politician who died on Saturday was given full state honour ahead of the burial. Several thousand people thronged at the funeral prayer earlier in Dhaka’s Sobhanbagh.
Leaders and activists of the ruling party took part in the second funeral prayers at the Banani Jamae Mosque maintaining physical distance amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Nasim is the son of Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali, one of the key organisers of Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He was the presidium member of the ruling Awami League and a spokesperson of the AL-led 14-party ruling combine. He served the government as a minister with different portfolios including health, home affairs, telecommunications.
