Dhaka – The deaths from novel coronavirus has risen to 522 with 21 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
The health officials reported 1,166 new infections during this time making the total number of Covid-19 patients in the South Asian country to 36,751, said Nasima Sultana, the additional director of the government’s health services.
The new infections were detected from among 5,407 samples tested at 48 authorised labs in different parts of the country, she said adding that the recovery count rose to 7,579 after 245 more patients were released from treatment at hospitals and at their homes.
Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
Sultana said Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chattogram are considered as “hotspots” as the maximum number of cases were detected in the three cities.
A total of 2,58,441 samples have so far been tested since the first cases of COVID-19 were reported on March 8.
The number of people quarantined is 55,989 now, the official said adding that more than 7814,000 people received healthcare services from hotline mobile numbers and health web portals run by the government to provide health services.
