Dhaka – The authorities have ordered stricter measures to prevent anyone leaving or entering into the capital city Dhaka as the number of novel coronavirus cases surged.
Bangladesh police in a press statement sought cooperation from the residents to help them ensure the guidelines, including maintaining social distancing, given by the health authorities.
The police request came after the health officials said the number of Covid-19 infection rose to 88, most of whom are in Dhaka.
“Other than the emergency services, all individual and group movements have been prohibited. We are working to ensure it,” the police statement said.
Bangladesh on Sunday reported the ninth novel coronavirus death and 18 more new infections.
The single largest cases in a day of infections was reported on Sunday, and the number is double than that of Saturday. Bangladesh detected the first three cases of novel coronavirus on March 8.
A 55-year old man from Narayanganj district also died of the infection in the last 24 hours, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque. He urged all people to stay at their homes to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Health officials were previously saying a limited community infection. But with the large number of infections reported they are now saying the spell of community infections has started.
