Two suspected criminals shot dead in Sirajganj ‘shootouts’

Sirajganj – Two suspected terrorists were gunned down in a so-called ‘gunfight’ between a gang and police in northern Bangladeshi district of Sirajganj, police said.

The gun battle took place at Jamtoil in Kamarkhand sub-district of the district in early hours of the day, said an official of the Rapid Action Battalion.

The suspects were identified as Sanoar Hossain and Lutfur Rahman.

Commanding officer of RAB12 Hasibul Alam told that a group of terrorists, including Sanowar Hosain and Lutfar, was staying in the area, adding that the members of the elite force launched a raid there at around 3:00am following a tip –off.

The officer said sensing the presence of the crime busting RAB team, the duo and their associates opened gunfire on the lawmen, triggering a gun battle.

While the elite force members returned gunfire at one stage, Sanowar Hosain and Lutfar were killed in exchange of gunfire and other associates managed to flee the scene, said the police officer.

Later, the law enforcers recovered the bodies and sent to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital morgue.

The law enforcements also seized one foreign-made pistol, one pipe gun, two deadly weapons and eight rounds of bullet from the spot.

The duo both were wanted in several cases, including for murder, robbery and arms, the officer said.
