Covid-19 holiday now until April 11

Dhaka – The general holiday has been extended by a week up to April 11 in a bid to stop spread the novel coronavirus which infected 54 people with six deaths reported, according to an official order issued on Wednesday.

The public administration ministry order said the holiday in the public and private offices and other non-essential services will be extended until 11 (with weekends on April 10 and 11).

Emergency services like power, water, gas, fire-fighting, cleanliness, telephone and internet services will, however, be out of the purview of the holiday.

Transportation of food, medical equipment, germicides agricultural goods, fertilizer, industrial goods, other essential products of daily necessities will also be allowed, and kitchen markets, food shops, pharmacies and hospitals will also be out of the purview of the shutdown.

Restrictions on the movement of different modes of public transports like train and bus services and the rickshaw vans would be relaxed in phases, the order said.

Bangladesh Bank would revise the current makeshift arrangements about the banking operations gauging the peoples’ necessities.

The government earlier on March 23 declared a nationwide 10-day holiday shutting down the government and private offices until April 4.

The government earlier asked all to stay indoors during the holidays and come out of their home only in case of urgent necessity like medical and healthcare purposes.
