Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to give food support for those hard-hit by the nationwide transport restrictions imposed in a bid to prevent spread of the deadly novel coronavirus, officials said on Monday.
Thousands of ultra-poor living in different parts of the country will come under the aid as they faced difficulties in searching a job or managing their daily meals.
A notice of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry issued on Sunday said that beggars, vagabonds, day-laborers, rickshaw-van pullers, transport workers, restaurant workers, hawkers and wayside tea-stall owners are among the vulnerable section of the people will get the assistance as per the Prime Minister’s direction.
The ministry was asked tie prepare a nationwide list of the people to be provided the food aid.
District commissioners (DCs) have been asked to coordinate with the prepared lists in case of food aid being provided by the affluent people, organisations and non-government organizations at the grassroots, so that repetition can be avoided and no beneficiaries left out.
