Dhaka – Customs Intelligence officials have confiscated 225 pieces of gold bars, weighting around 23 kilograms, at Dhaka airport, officials said on Thursday.
They also detained a man on Wednesday night.
Syed Ataul Majid of Syedpur in Rangpur district was arrested at as he landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while travelling by a flight of Singapore airlines.
The customs Intelligence officials challenged Majid while he was passing through the green channel in a wheelchair following information that the man was carrying undeclared gold, said HM Ehsanul Kabir, assistant commissioner of Customs.
He added that the official then seized the gold from a special belt wrapped around his waist.
The price of the recovered gold is worth about Tk 110 million.
