Bangladesh’s coronavirus death toll rises to 5

Dhaka – The death toll from novel coronavirus outbreak has risen to five with one more patient died on Wednesday, health officials said.

The 65-year old man who have been suffering from pre-existing complexities like diabetic and high blood pressure breathed his last in the morning at a Dhaka hospital, said Meerjady Sabrina Flora, the spokesperson of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said.

The man was infected by one of his family members on March 18 and were undergoing at a private hospital before he died, she said.

The spokesperson said a total of 47 persons suspected to have contacted the virus were put under isolation, while the similar number of people were kept in institutional quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, no one was detected to have contacted the virus as the institute tested 82 samples.

Bangladesh reported the first three cases of novel coronavirus on March 8. The outbreak first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan and now spread across the world killing more than 18,000 people and infected more than 400,000 people.
