Dhaka – Bangladesh on Friday announced three more confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, raising the total number of patient to 20 as global death toll passed 10,000 in less than three months after the virus’ breakout in China.
One of the three patients aged over 70 has been undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit as his condition with pre-existing age-old complexities is stated to be critical, said Nasima Sulatan, spokeswoman of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research said on Friday.
Two others – a man and woman both at their 30s – were comparatively doing better, and the man recently returned from Italy.
The septuagenarian and the woman are infected by returnees from abroad despite the fact that they are not member of the same family, Sultana said.
Bangladesh reported first coronavirus death on Wednesday, 10 days after the nations’ first three cases of coronavirus infection was detected on March 8.
The country suspended air connectivity with most of its neighbours, including India, Thailand and Singapore. Travel is also suspended with Europe, excluding Britain.
The spokeswoman said the IEDCR conducted tests on 36 samples in the last 24 hours ended on Friday morning. It sent 44 people for institutional quarantine while isolated 30 others during the time.
