Dhaka – The number of novel coronavirus patient has risen to 17 with the authorities announcing three more confirm cases of infection as the deadly virus wrecked havoc in many parts of the world, according to an official.
The new patients – two men including a sexagenarian and woman, contacted the virus from one of their relatives retuned from Italy, where more than 3,000 people died after the outbreak, director general of the health directorate Abul Kalam Azad said on Thursday.
The woman is aged about 22 and the other man is about 32. They are undergoing treatment at a specialized hospital in Dhaka.
Bangladesh on Wednesday reported the first coronavirus death. The deceased over 70 years old had also contacted the virus from one of his relatives who recently visited from United States.
The first three cases of coronavirus were detected on March 8.
The government has shut schools nationwide until March 31 and slapped a travel ban on neighbouring India and European countries, excluding Britain, and Malaysia. Flights with United Arab Emirates were also suspended from Thursday.
