Dhaka – Two more people were tested coronavirus positive raising the number of patient to 10 in Bangladesh, an official said on Tuesday.
Meerjady Sabrina Flora of the director of state-run Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research said one of them was family member of a person returned recently from abroad.
With the new infection it is clear that the virus is spreading through the Bangladeshis returning from abroad, she said emphasizing strict self-isolation by the Bangladeshi expats.
Bangladesh has asked more than 2,500 of its nationals returned home recently to remain at home-isolation. But in many cases, they do not pay heed to the request by the authorities.
Reports reaching from different parts of the country say that many of them freely mix up with the people at their family, neighborhoods and even the visit crowded market places putting many others on risk in a densely populated country.
Under this circumstance, the authorities have imposed financial penalty for two persons for violating condition of the self-quarantine.
Bangladesh, which detected the first three cases of coronavirus on March 8, shut schools for 15 days and slapped travel ban with neighboring India and European countries, excluding United Kingdom.
Still a Qatar airlines plane carrying more than 304 passengers, including 96 from Italy and Germany, landed in Dhaka on Monday breaching the ban. But the civil aviation authority says, the foreign ministry allowed them to come in.
