Dhaka – The bail granted to a controversial contractor and self-declared ruling party leader in two cases was recalled by two separate High Court benches on Sunday.
Arrested last year during an anti-corruption raid, GK Shamim was granted the bail in two cases by the High Court in February apparently without the knowledge of state counsels. And as the report surfaced in the media on Saturday the prosecution moved appeal against the bail on Sunday.
A High Court bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman recalled its order that granted six-month bail to Shamim in arms case. The other bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty also recalled its bail order against the accused in a case filed under the Narcotic Control Act.
The Paid Action Battalion arrested Shamim at his business office at Niketan on September 20, 2019. The lawmen arrested his seven armed bodyguards along with arms and ammunition and seized nearly two crore taka in cash and Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth about Taka 165 crore.
He was also accused in a money laundering case.
