Women’s Day being celebrated in Bangladesh

Dhaka – The International Women’s Day is being observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the globe to forge brotherhood between the men and women to establish their equal rights.

Different social, cultural and political organizations chalked out elaborate programme to celebrate the day with the theme of this year’s celebration “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.

The day is being observed every year on March 8 aiming at empowerment of the women who have been facing hardships from families to state causing their backwardness. Women are nowadays aware of their rights.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages, greeting all women across the world on this day.

UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, in her special message on the day, highlighted 2020 as the year for gender equality and calls on everyone to tackle the persistent barriers against gender equality.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and all private television channels chalked out special programmes to air to highlight the significance of the day. Special supplements were being published by a section of newspapers.
