Dhaka – The election commission has announced mayoral elections to Chattogram City Corporation and by-election to two parliamentary constituencies for March 29 voting.
The tenure of the current mayor in the port city will be expired this year and the parliamentary seats – Bogura-1 and Jashore-6 fell vacant because of the deaths of the lawmakers.
Election commission secretary Mohammad Alamgir announced the election schedule at a press conference on Sunday.
According to the election schedule, aspirants will be able to file nomination papers until February 27. The election commission will scrutinize the nomination on March 1. The last date for withdrawal of candidature was set for March 8. The election symbol will be allocated on March 9 to launch formally the electioneering by the candidates.
The voting will begin at 9 am and will continue until 5 pm without any break.
Electronic Voting Machine will be used in Chattogram City elections while paper ballot will be used in the parliamentary by-elections.
