Gazipur – The law enforcement have arrested five persons, including a Bangladeshi expatriate in Canada, in suspicion that they are members of a banned Islamist outfit, officials said on Wednesday.
Crime-busting Rapid Action Battalion picked up the suspects from central Bangladeshi district of Gazipur Tuesday. All of them are believed to be the members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), said Mufti Mahmud Khan, spokesman of the battalion.
Among those, one was identified as Canadian expatriate Rasheduzzaman Rose who is the trainer of the female wing of JMB and acting ameer of the southern region, said the officer.
Huge amount of firearms, explosives and homemade bombs were seized from their possessions.
