Dhaka – The nation on Sunday paid homage to the four national heroes who were brutally killed in the jail nearly four and a half decades ago.
Awami League leaders Tajuddin Ahmed, Syed Nazrul Islam, Captain Monsur Ali and AHM Kamaruzzaman, who led the Liberation War in the absence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971, were assassinated in the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975 only three months after the assassination of Bangabandhu.
Different political parties, socio-cultural organizations placed floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu and the four national leaders to remember their contributions for nation building.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four national leaders marking the Jail Killing Day.
She placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 here this morning.
After placing the wreath, she stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of Bangabandhu and the four national leaders.
Later, flanked by central leaders of the party, Hasina placed another wreath as the president of Awami League at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Later, the leaders and activists of the ruling party and its associate bodies paid homage to Bangabandhu and four national leaders by placing wreaths.
