Dhaka – Molla Mohammad Abu Kawser, the president of ruling Awami League’s voluntary wing, has been sacked on Wednesday, barely three days after the head of the party’s youth front was relived in the same way.
Both of them are accused in activities that go against the spirit of the organizations they had been heading.
They were allegedly involved in casino businesses which were being run illegally in some of the Dhaka’s football club premises unit the law enforcement agencies busted those businesses in September.
The government has frozen bank accounts of both the former leaders.
Kawser, the president of Swechchhasebak League has been relieved of his post, said Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the Awami League party.
Qoader, also a senior minister in charge of the road transport and bridges affairs, told reporters that the removal was made as per the constitution of the organization.
The message was conveyed to Kawser in accordance with the decision, he added.
Earlier on Sunday, the National Board of Revenue asked the banks to freeze Kawser’s accounts. The bank account of his spouse and he business firms were also frozen.
Kawser is also known as the president of Dhaka Wanderers Club, one of the Dhaka’s football clubs where illegal casino business was being operated.
Earlier Jubo League leaders Islamil Hossain Samrat, GK Shamim and Khaled Bhuyian were arrested among others after the government launched last month a crackdown against illegal casino, corruption, irregularities and tampering of tender for official public works.
