Dhaka – Police have detained six people for their alleged link with the murder of a second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
All the detainees are members of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League party, and student of the BUET, police said on Monday.
Abrar Fahad, a student of electrical and electronics engineering department, was beaten to death allegedly by a section of leaders of the BCL.
Chawkbazar police station chief Sohrab Hossain said the BCL leaders were taken into custody for interrogation over the murder. They are general secretary of the organization’s BUET unit Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Joint Secretary Muttakim Fuad, information and research secretary Anick Sarker, sports secretary Meftahul Islam Zion, organizing secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin and publication secretary Ishtiak Munna.
Forensic experts at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said that they found injury marks on many parts of Abrar’s body. He might have died of internal bleeding.
