Dhaka – A second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET)was reportedly beaten to death the university dormitory early on Monday, police said.
Initial investigation says Abrar Fahad of electrical and electronic engineering department was beaten to death by unknown assailants, Krishan Pada Roy, a senior officer of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told local media.
Two student leaders belonging two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of BUET unit, Rasel and Mustakim Fuad, were taken to local police station for interrogation about the death of the student.
It is alleged that Fahad was grilled by the BCL leaders as they suspected that the student might have linked with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami which opposed Bangladesh’s 1971 war of liberation.
Later his body was found in front of Sher-e-Bangla Hall. Students of the hall informed the police about the death at about 3am, officer Kamal Hossain said.
General students of the university planned a demonstration on the campus.
