Dhaka – The triennial council of the ruling Awami League will be held on December 20-23 to elect new leadership for the party.
The Central Working Committee of the party at a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Saturday came up with the decision as the tenure of the existing committee expires next month, party general secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters.
The previous council of the party was held in October 2016. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was re-elected president of the party for the eighth consecutive term at that time.
The party holds its council every three years in line with its charter.
Awami League was formed on Jun 23 in 1949 at Rose Garden in Old Dhaka’s KM Das Lane.
