Dhaka – Security has been beefed up in Dhaka to ensure smooth celebration of the Muslims’ second largest religious festival on Monday, police said.
A five-tire security measures have been taken at the national eidgah and the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, where the major eid congregation will take place, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said on Saturday.
He said the national eidgah is completely ready for the prayers.
The entire area will be under CCTV surveillance, he said adding that police in uniform and plainclothes and members of the other specialised forces would be deployed to ensure security of the devotees.
Measures have also been taken for other congregation venues in the capital, he said requesting the devotees not to carry any inflammable substances, knife or matches at the venues.
Only prayer mats and umbrellas can be carried, he said.
Traffic movements around the national eidgah and Baitul Mukarram mosque will be off-limit in the morning.
