Dhaka – The much-talked about police officer, Moazzem Hossain, has been arrested nearly 20 days after a court ordered his arrest for allegedly spreading his objectionable conversation of a sexually harassed victim in Feni district.
Police captured the officer near High Court area of Dhaka on Sunday, officer Maruf Hossain Sarder said.
Moazzem was accused in a case that he spread a video footage of a statement of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madras student who was harassed by the principal of her religious school in Feni, on social media as she wanted justice after harassment.
Nusrat was set on fire by a group of local goons patron by Siraj-ud-Daula in early April as she did not withdrew the case filed with local police station. The 18-year old girl was died in a hospital later.
Police traced almost all the accused in the murder case. But the officer, who was suspended from his duty for his role, had gone absconding after a case was filed against him under digital security act.
Bangladesh’s Cyber Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka issued an arrest warrant for Moazzem on May 27 after the Police Bureau of Investigation submitted the report on an investigation that found evidence of the allegations brought against Moazzem.
