Dhaka – Parliament goes into its budget session Tuesday as the government prepared to placed the annual fiscal proposal for the 2019-2020 financial year on Thursday, according to parliament secretariat.
The Business Advisory Committee of the Jatiya Sangsad headed by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury decided to run the session until mid July. The meeting was attended by the committee members, including Leader of the House Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the parliament building.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is expected to place the national budget for 2019-20 fiscal, beginning on July 1, on Thursday. It will be Kamal’s first budget to be placed as the finance minister of Bangladesh.
It would be the third session of the 11th parliament and the first budget session of the Awami League government which assumed straight third term in office after an overwhelming victory in the December 30 general election.
The AL government is going to place its 19th budget in the Jatiya Sangsad and it is also 48th one in Bangladesh’s history.
President Abdul Hamid summoned the budget session exercising the power bestowed upon him as per the Constitution. The lawmakers will debate the budget proposals in the House before its passage.
The first session of the 11th parliament began on January 30.
