Dhaka – The immigration and passport department has suspended one of its officials for negligence of duty at the airport immigration crossing as he allegedly allowed a pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to pass his desk without passport.
A committee was also assigned to look into how the pilot crossed the immigration desk on June 5. The pilot, Captain Fazal Mahmud, could not cross immigration when he reached Qatar and the passport was sent on the following day.
Sub-inspector Kamruzzaman, who was on-duty on that day at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport, was suspended, said Muhammad Ismail Hossain, a senior immigration officer, told reporters in Dhaka on Saturday.
The officer was suspended for negligence in duty, he said adding that the captain Mahmud should also be responsible for travelling without passport despite the fact that the pilots’ immigration clearance are done as per the general declaration (GD- Crew ID.
The passports are checked for proof as part of the procedure.
