Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has performed Umrah, a prayers for Muslims at the birth place of Prophet Muhammad, at Makkah as she is now on a four-day official visit to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
State-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency reported that the Prime Minister had first performed “tawaf” around the holy Kaaba and later walked and ran between Safa and Marwa on Sunday night.
Hasina also offered prayers seeking divine blessings for the people of Bangladesh as well as continued peace, progress and prosperity of Muslim nations.
Member of her official entourage also performed the same.
The Prime Minister reached Saudi Arabia on May 31 at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to join the 14th Summit of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on conclusion of her four-day visit to Japan.
Hasina left Dhaka now on a tri-nation visit with Japan on the first leg and she is expected to visit Finland at the final leg of her current trip.
She addressed the 14th OIC conference in Makkah on behalf of the Asia Group on the second day of her visit in Saudi Arabia on Friday.
The Prime Minister will offer ziarat at the Rawza Mubarak of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at Masjid-e Nababi in the holy city of Madinah. She will also offer prayers at the holy mosque.
Hasina is scheduled to leave Saudi Arabia Monday for Finland. She is scheduled to return home on June 8.
