Dhaka – An arrest warrant has been issued against a policeman blamed for filming and circulating a video statement of a teenage girl, who fell victim of sexual harassment and eventually killed by the perpetrators.
Bangladesh’s Cyber Tribunal on Monday issued the warrant against Moazzem Hossain, former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi police station in Feni, after investigators charged the officer under the Digital Security Act.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi,18, a madrassa student in the locality sought the officer’s help when she was harassed by the madrassa principal, SM Siraj-ud-Daula in March.
But the officer, instead of taking action against the accused, filmed her statement and posted on social media.
The girl was later in April set to fire by the associates of the principal and died at a hospital in Dhaka. Nusrat’s death creates hue and cry across Bangladesh and the officer was suspended few days later.
Police Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation and found the officer-in-charge involved in the wrong-doing.
Moazzem had denied circulating the video on social media.
