Dhaka – At least five people have been killed after a passenger bus hit an auto-rickshaws in southern Chandpur district, police said on Sunday.
The accident occurred near Kakoirtola on Chadpur-Cumilla road in the morning leaving four of them died on the scene in the morning, officer Shah Alam said. The other person died in a local health facility.
The deceased were passengers of the auto-rickshaw. The driver of the bus and a passenger of the bus were also injured. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital, the officer said.
Lax implementation of law, poor infrastructure, lack of awareness by the road users are among the reasons that made Bangladesh as one of the countries with high road fatality rate.
Road accident claimed more than 7,500 lives in 2018. More than 15,000 people were wounded in the road crashes during the period, according to Passenger Welfare Association.
