International desk – At least seven passengers have been killed and more than dozen others injured after a train derailed in Indian state of Bihar on Sunday, officials said.
Times of India quoting officials reported that the Delhi-bound Seemanchal Express derailed near Sahdei Buzurg in Vaishali district of Bihar leaving the fatalities.
The place of occurrence is nearly 50 kilometers away from the state capital.
Railway officials said that 11 coaches derailed in the accident. A crack in the railway tracks might have caused the derailment. The authorities launched an investigation into accident.
The train which starts from Jogbani had been travelling with a spend of nearly 350km per hour when the accident took place at 3.58am near Sahdei Buzurg.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences for the deceased passengers and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed shock at the deaths of the passengers.
