Barishal – A police man has been made off-duty after he was forced to return money he had taken as bribe in Banaripara sub-district of Barishal, officials said on Monday.

Mosharraf Hossain, a sub inspector of Banaripara police station, was closed to police line after a pesticide retailer alleged that the officer took bribe from her on Saturday night.

Sima Pandey, the retailer, in her complaint to local lawmaker Shahe Alam said that a team of police led by Hossain raided her shop and found two bottles of date-expired pesticide.

The officer threatened the shop owner of arrest unless she pays 50,000 taka. The retailer managed 30,000 taka with a promise that she would give the rest of the amount on the following day.

On complaint, Alam asked the district police chief for action against the officer, and measures were taken accordingly.

“Departmental actions will be taken against Hossain,” said Saiful Islam, chief of the district police.
