Dhaka – The Election Commission has warned the election officials of punitive measures if they are found involved in unfairness during the next month’s parliamentary elections.
“The commission will go tough if anyone is found bias. Punitive actions will be taken after investigation,” Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said on Saturday.
Major political parties are getting prepared for the polls as the commission set December 30 for voting.
Chowdhury, a retired army officer, said neutrality is very important for the election asking the officials to discharge their duties unbiased. He was addressing a training session for the election officials at Election Commission building in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
The election commissioner hopes the election will be inclusive and stressed that the election officials must ensure that equal importance are given to all the contestants.
The voters’ security is also important. The officials must ensure that the electors can freely exercise their right to vote and return safely from the polling stations, he said.
“We don’t want to hold yet another questioned election,” he said.
The programme was arranged for the field-level election officers to train them on the usage of electronic voting machine, election management system software and result management system software.
