Dhaka – Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is scheduled to place Bangladesh’s national budget in parliament for 2018-19 financial year on Thursday, the government said on Monday.
The minister, who is going to place the national budget for 10th straight years in a row, is expected to table a budget outlay worth about 4,682 billion taka (55.3825 million dollar) in the election year, according to the finance ministry officials.
This will be the highest budget allocation for Bangladesh. The previous budget allocation for the current 2017-18 was 4002.66 billion taka.
The next financial year’s budget will be placed at 12.30 pm on Thursday at the Jatiya Sangsad as the budget session of the parliament begins on Tuesday. The minister will address the traditional news conference on his proposed financial measures on the following day.
This will be the 47th national budget and 12th by Muhith.
The budget documents will also be available on a number of dedicated websites run by the government and private organisations. The sites include www.bangladesh.gov.bd, www.nbr-bd.org, www.plancomm.gov.bd, www.imed.gov.bd, www.bdpressinform.org and www.pmo.gov.bd.
The lawmakers will pass the budget after nearly a month of discussion at the end of June. Parliament will witness the budget discussion from the second week of June.
